Purpose of class
The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge of a variety of research methodologies and skills in various problem-solving approaches used in potentially different research environments.
Course description
Students will learn different research objectives and methodologies, and acquire the necessary knowledge and skills through their research activities. Students will participate in research work as a member of a team in their laboratory. Students will learn how basic knowledge for science and engineering is applied to problem-solving in research and development. Finally, students will acquire the ability to respect and appreciate “diversity and inclusion” and a comprehensive perspective for science and engineering through collaboration with diversity-enriched team members.

Students who enrolled in 2024 or before will also conduct laboratory rotations within this course, where they will do research in both their own laboratory and the two other laboratories that they visit. The activities in other laboratories should be reported to the supervisor every week.

  1. Students can clarify the commonalities and differences in a given set of research methodologies and problem-solving approaches.
  2. Students can apply basic knowledge for science and engineering to problem-solving in research and development.
  3. Students can develop thinking skills and present their research progress at the end-of-semester presentation.

Evaluation method and criteria
More than 60% of the total score is needed for getting the course credit. The details will be explained by the supervisor.
”Daily activities” will be evaluated by the supervisor.
”Presentation in meeting” will be evaluated by the supervisor.
”Presentation at the end of the semester” will be evaluated by the supervisors and the reviewers.

Only for students enrolled in 2024 or before, laboratory rotations are also evaluated on the same items as laboratory activities in their home laboratory. The ratio of the two in the final evaluation is as follows: Home laboratory:Visitied laboratories (2 labs)=5:1
