English Remedial Course 2

To establish basic English skills as a prerequisite for acquiring English communication skills.

This course aims to help students to establish basic English skills as a prerequisite for acquiring the English communication skills required for science and engineering professionals. Students will thoroughly master the basics of English grammar and fully understand the basic structure of English sentences.
This class will help students who are deemed to be below the pass mark based on their level placement data at the start of the course to solidify their English foundations and acquire basic English reading comprehension skills so that they can keep up with English classes in their first and second years. Students whose placement score is above the pass mark can also take this course. This class is recommended also to students who want to solidify their English foundations.
The instructor for this course is also a member of the English Learning Support Office in the School of Systems Engineering and Science. To improve your English ability, it is important to actively use the English Learning Support Office outside of class for questions and consultations about classes and general English. Instruction will also be given in class on how to use the English Learning Support Office.

Notes:
- Students whose placement test score is below the pass mark at the start of the course and wish to take English Basic Skills 2 must take English Remedial Course 2 in parallel with English Basic Skills 2. If they fail English Remedial Course 2, credits for English Basic Skills 2 will not be given.
- If you pass English Remedial Course 1 but fail English Basic Skills 2, you do not need to retake English Remedial Course 2 if you retake English Basic Skills 2.
- Students whose placement test score is above the pass mark will not have their credits for English Basic Skills 2 revoked, even if they do not pass this class.
- This is an optional subject and does not count as language credits required for graduation.

Regular points (quizzes, assignments, homework, etc.) 70%
Final examination (tests prepared by each instructor) 30%

A score of 60 will be given to students who can read and understand most of the example sentences in the textbook and understand most of the audio.

To receive credits, you must attend at least two-thirds of classes. Five or more absences will result in a failure.

If you are absent for special reasons, first submit an absence notice to the Omiya Student Affairs Office and submit a copy of the notice to your homeroom teacher.
