Using typesetting software TeX, students will learn to create documents and presentation manuscripts which contain many mathematical
formulas. Additionally, through data processing using Excel, they will learn the fundamentals of data science. Furthermore,
by working with Mathematica and Matlab, they will also learn about symbolic computation and numerical calculation. Finally,
they will learn how to create web pages containing mathematical formulas.
For science and engineering students, internet use, document creation, and spreadsheet applications are essential. However,
many students today are already familiar with the basic use of tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as PCs are utilized
in homes and elementary, junior high, and high school education. Conversely, the ability to analyze vast amounts of data obtained
from the internet and other sources using computers to extract meaningful information (data science skills) has become increasingly
important in recent years. Therefore, this course will focus on learning TeX, a software known for its excellence in inputting
and printing mathematical formulas, for document creation and presentations. Students will also learn to create web pages
using TeX notation. For data science, students will utilize the spreadsheet software Excel. They will learn how to use Excel
itself and also study the fundamentals of statistical processing. Furthermore, by utilizing mathematical software (formula
processing systems and numerical calculation software), students will gain exposure to techniques for handling mathematical
problems on a PC, extending beyond simple data processing.
- Learn TeX and be able to create documents containing mathematical expressions
- Be able to perform simple data analysis using Excel
- Be able to perform simple mathematical computations, such as solving and plotting equations, using Mathematica
- Understand the basic operations of MATLAB and be able to perform simple programming
- Be able to create simple web pages using HTML
