Purpose of class
The purpose of this course is to foster students’ ability to understand health, medical, and welfare policy from multiple perspectives and to conduct quantitative analysis from current-state assessment to future forecasting. Students examine concrete issues based on data, such as the consolidation and reorganization of medical institutions, optimization of the number of hospital beds, relationships between residents’ health status and medical expenditures, and the development of community-based integrated care systems. Through these studies, the course aims to develop knowledge and analytical skills that can be applied to actual policy making and to cultivate human resources who can contribute to the future development of health, medical, and welfare systems.
Course description
In this course, students learn the foundations of health, medical, and welfare policy, analyze the current situations of countries, cities, and local communities from multiple angles, and develop perspectives for policy making. Students consider the background of past policies and quantitatively forecast future issues in health, medical, and welfare policy. In the medical field, students analyze the consolidation and reorganization of medical institutions and the optimization of the number of hospital beds. In the health field, they examine relationships between residents’ health status and medical expenditures. In the welfare field, they analyze community-based integrated care systems using data and acquire knowledge that can be applied to practical policy making.

Evaluation method and criteria
Grades are evaluated on a 100-point scale based on a total of 28 assignments, consisting of pre-class and post-class assignments for each class session. The overall evaluation is based on the average score of all assignments, and a score of 60 or higher is required to pass.
A score of 60 means that, at minimum, the student understands the content of each class session and can explain the points specified in the assignments.
