Purpose of class
The purposes of this class are: Item 1. to provide an opportunity to simulate studying abroad through our university’s support for international students, and Item 2. to understand different cultures.
For the 1st item, we will provide an opportunity to simulate studying abroad through volunteer activities such as an introduction to basic information about the university, finding housing, providing information including how to use infrastructure such as banks and supermarkets, taking courses, and providing life consultations.
For the 2nd item, the purpose is to research the social systems and culture, which vary greatly from country to country and region, and to present slides comparing them with those in Japan.

IMPORTANT
1) This course provides very tough contents, hence the coordinator strongly recommends that only students who truly want to learn should take this course.
2) Freshmen (first-year students) are not permitted to take this course in the spring semester as they have no experience of university life in terms of international student support.
Course description
About the 1st item, student will volunteer to help international students at our university and learn what you have to prepare for future studies abroad, what problem you may encounter, how to solve it, and so on. Importantly, you will realize your growth by recognizing your role in the international program. Students who is not enrolled in the Global Program are also welcome.
About the 2nd item, student will make research on food culture, politics and modern history, religion, health insurance systems, etc. of foreign countries. After making the presentation slides, they will present including Q&A session.
Goals and objectives
  1. Able to explain concretely how to prepare for studying abroad, what kind of problem is likely to occur, and what kind of approach to solve the problem is required.
  2. Able to explain how to utilize a human network to solve international student problems.
  3. Able to explain what is important for intercultural exchange.
  4. Able to express your opinion based on facts and discuss with others.

Evaluation method and criteria
For credit certification, students are required to explain what and how you developed yourself through the buddy activity. To this end, followings are evaluated;
1. Weekly activity report on how you supported and helped foreign students
2. Participation in biweekly meeting
3. Slide presentation on some topics including Q&A session (mandatory)
4. Final essay ”What and how did you develop yourself through the buddy activity?” (mandatory)
Students should hand in more than 75% of weekly report ON TIME, attend more than 75% of meeting, hand in the final essay and present the slide material to get a grade of 60.
