Purpose of class
The course aims to provide comprehensive, practice-based learning of fundamental statistical knowledge in the fields of urban studies, environment, and architecture, as well as certification schemes related to the assessment of societal sustainability, which are essential for considering practical measures toward the realization of a sustainable society.
Course description
In this course, students comprehensively learn, through practice-based exercises, fundamental statistical knowledge in the fields of urban studies, environment, and architecture, as well as certification schemes related to the assessment of societal sustainability. These competencies are essential for considering concrete measures toward the realization of a sustainable society based on the concept of the SDGs.

The course is conducted in an exercise-oriented format. Practitioners with professional experience in each field participate as guest instructors, and students engage in discussions on social needs, current challenges, and possible measures, based on explanations of fundamental statistical analysis common to the urban, environmental, and architectural fields, as well as sustainability assessment methodologies and certification systems.

This course is designated as Subject (10) for the qualification requirements for registered architects.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students will be able to identify relevant basic statistical data for sustainability assessment, explain how to obtain such data, and compute appropriate descriptive statistics in accordance with the analytical purpose.
  2. Students will be able to discuss corporate sustainability management and the domestic and international trends underlying it with others.
  3. Students will be able to discuss the key elements required for sustainable urban development with others from architectural, urban, and environmental perspectives.

In addition, experts engaged in professional sustainability evaluation practices in each field will participate in the course to explain relevant assessment methodologies and certification schemes.
