Purpose of class
The objective of this course is to acquire the knowledge necessary for studying and working in technical fields related to image processing.
Course description
Images are an important source of information for humans and are used in a wide variety of fields, including recognition, inspection, measurement, compression, and computer graphics.

The objective of this course is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge required to study technologies related to images. The course may be regarded as an introduction to image information processing and covers the essential concepts that engineers working with images should know, including image generation, representation, storage, and processing. Rather than learning how to use specific image-processing software, students will learn the fundamentals of how such software is developed. This knowledge will also help them understand how to use various image-processing applications.

Since the textbook is designed for a professional certification examination, students are strongly encouraged to obtain the Image Processing Engineer Certification.
Goals and objectives
  1. * Understand and explain the meanings of terms related to image processing.
  2. * Understand and explain various image-processing methods.
  3. * Understand and explain fundamental knowledge related to image processing.

Evaluation method and criteria
Students will be evaluated based on approximately four quizzes, a comprehensive test, and their participation in questions and discussions. A score of 80% will be awarded if the student demonstrates a general understanding of the terminology and methods covered in the course.

Qualifications awarded by the CG-ARTS Society will also be taken into consideration when determining grades. Among the students who have passed the Expert Level of the Image Processing Engineer Certification, the student with the highest academic performance is expected to receive the CG-ARTS Society Award. Further details will be provided during the first class.
