Purpose of class
By engaging in exercises in architectural sketching, architectural design drawing, and structural design drawing, students will develop the ability to perceive architectural space in three dimensions and understand its constituent elements and mechanisms. They will also acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in the notation and representation used in design drawing.
Course description
In this course, students learn the conventions and basic techniques of representation in architectural design drawing and structural design drawing, acquiring the fundamental skills in drawing notation and expression necessary for “making” in the fields of architecture, urban design, and the environment.
This course corresponds to the designated subject (① Architectural Design Drawing) for the Architect Registration Examination.
Goals and objectives
  1. Students are able to measure the dimensions of objects and spaces using their own bodies.
  2. Students understand isometric projection, dimetric/axonometric projection, and perspective drawing of building interiors and exteriors, and are able to create them independently.
  3. Students understand the construction methods of wooden houses and the principles of drawing basic plans, sections, and detail drawings, and are able to create them independently.
  4. Students understand the construction methods of steel-frame and reinforced concrete structures and the principles of drawing basic structural drawings, and are able to create them independently.

Evaluation method and criteria
Grades are evaluated based on the total points of each assignment:

Body-based measurement exercises: 5%

Sketching exercises: 15%

Wooden structure drawing assignment: 60%

RC and steel structure drawing assignment: 20%

Note: Accumulating 5 absences results in a grade of “D.”
Students must submit all assignments by the deadlines and have no more than 4 absences to achieve the passing score of 60 points (out of 100).
