Purpose of class
The purpose of this course is to study the history of architecture and cities to understand how human beings have historically created various architectural forms and to acquire fundamental knowledge and modes of thought through analysis and interpretation.
Course description
This course views history chronologically, interpreting the relationship between human social phenomena and architectural acts as a basic specialized subject for modern ”monozukuri” (craftsmanship), based on the concepts of ”learning from the past” and ”innovating from the past”.
Note: This course corresponds to the Registered Architect Examination Designated Subject ①: ”Architectural Planning.”

  1. Understand architectural history in relation to natural and social environments.
  2. Relate architectural history to architectural planning and design.
  3. Utilize architectural history for problem discovery and solving.
  4. Establish themes based on course content and produce reports through information gathering, analysis, and writing.

Evaluation method and criteria
Grades are evaluated comprehensively based on the following proportions:
-Average score of 12 lecture mini-quizzes: 90%
-Final report: 10%
Important Notes:
-Please note that 5 absences will result in a grade of ”D”.
-To achieve a passing grade of ”60 points (on a 100-point scale),” students must fulfill all the following requirements:
-Maintain an average mini-quiz score of 60 points or higher.
-Submit the final report by the designated deadline.
-Have 4 or fewer absences.
