Purpose of class
The objective of this course is to help students understand and apply basic statistical methods in the life sciences, perform statistical analyses of actual experimental data, and develop the ability to interpret and discuss the results.
Course description
This course provides lectures on statistical methods for research in the life sciences. In particular, acquiring statistical methods for analyzing experimental data commonly used in the life sciences is essential for developing rational research plans. The course explains key methods in probability and statistics, using research examples from the life sciences.

Evaluation method and criteria
Evaluation will be based on the midterm examination (40%) and the final examination (60%). A passing score of 60 indicates that students have acquired the minimum statistical methods necessary for experiments and measurements in the Department of Bioscience and Engineering, and are able to interpret data at a basic level.
