Purpose of class
This lecture aims to provide you with a systematic overview of the chemical reactions that generate various life phenomena from the viewpoint of energy, and to enable you to quantitatively grasp and objectively express those reactions. You will understand the knowledge of physical chemistry necessary for this purpose and learn how to use it.
Course description
Physical chemistry is the science to understand the behavior of molecules in the life and material world from the viewpoint of ”energy”. In this lecture, you will learn chemical thermodynamics and reaction kinetics, the main topics of physical chemistry, and deepen your understanding through practice exercises.
Goals and objectives
  1. Understand the relationship between the three laws of thermodynamics and equilibrium phenomena in nature
  2. Understand how to interpret chemical reaction rates and learn to derive rate equations
  3. Interest in familiar phenomena and issues involving thermodynamics and reaction kinetics

Evaluation method and criteria
Your score will be based on the exercises (40%) and the exam (60%).
60 points or more (equivalent to 100 points) will be considered for credit.

Exercises will be evaluated from Class 2-13 (each with the same points, total of 60 points).

Examinations will be evaluated by written questions.

Attendance will be verified by the assignment submitted each time.
