Purpose of class
Understanding of basic nature, reactivity, and reaction mechanism about organic compounds
Course description
This course deals with the relationship between the structures of organic compounds (alkene, alkyne, aromatic carbohydrate, etc) and their physical properties as well as their chemical reactivity and also covers the rules of the IUPAC nomenclature system . A short test will be done in every classes.
Goals and objectives
  1. Mastering of structure, nature, and reactivity of organic compounds
  2. To learn basic chemical properties of aliphatic hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons
  3. Understanding of basic reactions about organic compounds
  4. To explain the basic properties and reactions of aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and carboxylic acid derivatives.

Evaluation method and criteria
Require total score of 60% and above within mid-term examination (40%), final examination (40%), and small tests (20%). 60% or more of the total 100% will be required for credit. Students are expected to understand the basic points learned in the prints and the textbook. A score of 60 can be obtained by reviewing well the content of each class session and taking each small tests, the mid-term and final examinations. However, you will not be able to take the mid-term and final exams unless you attend at least two-thirds of the class sessions (excluding official absences).
