Purpose of class
This course aims to provide an understanding of the current status of biomaterials and to equip students with the knowledge required to address existing challenges, develop new biomaterials, and apply them to fields such as artificial organs and regenerative medicine.
Course description
Various biomaterials are used in medical practice. This course introduces the fundamentals of inorganic materials, metallic materials, and polymeric materials used as biomaterials. In addition, it provides an overview of basic concepts and recent research developments related to cellular responses to biomaterials in vitro and in vivo, drug delivery systems, artificial organs, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering.
Goals and objectives
  1. To be able to explain the major kinds of biomaterials.
  2. To be able to explain the properties of biomaterials.
  3. To be able to explain the biological reaction for biomaterials.
  4. To be able to explain the application for artificial organs and regenerative medicine.
