In Mechanics I, we have dealt with mass point which is a material without volume. In Mechanics II, our concern is a material
with volume;
study of motion of it required understanding of physical quantities such as center of mass, moment of inertia and so on.
Students are expected to get an ability of giving an account of motion of rigid bodies by solving the equation of motion.
This course introduces a concept of motions of system of particles, rigid body, elastic body, and fluid, understanding of
which is based on Mechanics 1 which is about one particle.
And then this course deals with an appearance force (force of inertia) such as centrifugal force and Coriolis’ force.
Students are expected to understand a fundamental property of various kind of motions and get the view-point of Physics.
- Get a meaning of angular momentum and moment of force, and use them so as to get answer of the exercises in the text.
- Get a meaning of the difference between internal and external force so as to put them into motion equations of system of particles.
Deduce a law of center-of-mass motion and a law of rotational motion by using a law of action and reaction and by using motion
equations of system of particles.
- Set up the motion equation of moving rigid body and solve it.
- Understand the basics of elastic bodies and fluid mechanics.
